Rafael Benitez has not given up hope of signing Arsenal target Maxime Gonalons this winter, with fresh contact expected to be made with Lyon today.

According to Sky Italia, Napoli are ready to revive their interest in the Lyon captain, despite his president Jean-Michel Aulas rejecting a previous €17m bid.

Gonalons had been on the radar at Arsenal last summer, and it is not yet clear if the Gunners have given up on the midfielder.

While Gonalons may be contracted at Lyon until 2016, he is very much expected to leave the club this summer, according to his own statements.

However, Napoli may want to pre-empt that departure this month, with Benitez eager to get the player he had courted whilst managing Liverpool.

The contact for Gonalons is understood to be Benitez's last roll of the dice, even as he attempts to woo Tottenham Hotspur's Etienne Capoue.

The 24-year-old is considered a high-value asset at Lyon, but it remains to be seen how long the Ligue 1 club can hold out.
