Everton have received a boost with manager Roberto Martinez confirming Romelu Lukaku's injury is not as bad as first feared.

Lukaku had to be stretchered off in last night's 4-0 Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool, having collided with team-mate Gareth Barry.

His ankle was quickly placed in a cast and it was feared the on-loan striker could miss the rest of the season.

But Martinez has revealed that following an assessment that is not the case.

"There is no ligament damage and the injury is not as bad as we first thought. It will be a case of weeks rather than months", he said via his club's site.

Lukaku joined Everton on a season-long loan from Chelsea in the summer.

He has bagged nine goals in 20 appearances for the Toffees this term so far.
