Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that the club are likely to utilise an option open to them to extend midfielder Kris Commons' contract.

Commons landed at the Scottish champions in January 2011, but has a contract which will end this summer if the Bhoys do not choose to extend.

Lennon feels that the club will extend it, with the midfielder having enjoyed a superb campaign so far, with 21 goals in 33 appearances.

"He's got an option on his contract and I'm pretty sure we'll be taking the option and then we'll look at things after that", Lennon was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"He's been a huge player for us this season and he seems happy here", he added.

Commons started his career at Stoke City, then moving on to Nottingham Forest in 2004.

The 30-year-old switched to another midlands club in Derby County four years later, before heading north to join Celtic.
