Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt admits he has his eye on Hoffenheim starlet Roberto Firmino, a player he believes is nothing less than "great".

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is attracting interest from a large number of clubs, with English Premier League giants Liverpool having been one of those mooted as keen on securing his services in the summer.

Schalke, who view the Brazilian at close quarters regularly in the Bundesliga, may be another side in the mix.

And Firmino is someone that deal-maker Heldt certainly knows all about.

Heldt told the DPA: "I have nothing to say except that Roberto Firmino is a great player.

"I imagine there are many clubs that are after him."

The 22-year-old has turned out 22 times in the Bundesliga for Hoffenheim in the current campaign, chipping in with an impressive 12 goals and providing nine assists for his team-mates.

In the German Cup, Firmino made four appearances in his side's run, scoring six goals and providing four assists.
