Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes that Demba Ba’s brace in the Blues’ 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday will be a huge boost for the 28-year-old’s confidence.

The Senegalese striker was brought on the field as a substitute for Samuel Eto’o, who started the game as a replacement for the injured Fernando Torres, and scored two goals in two minutes to finish the game off for Mourinho’s’ men in style.

Ba has made just one start for Chelsea since 6th October, in a Champions League game against Steaua Bucharest, where he scored the only goal, and has been benched on 14 other occasions, but the 51-year-old Portuguese is pleased with the way the former Newcastle United player rose up to the occasion.

“Ba is very important”, Mourinho was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official website.

“I proved earlier in the season that I was right to have three strikers because when one is injured you need the other two. It's one of the best decisions we made to keep three strikers.

“It's good for him that he scored. They're not the winning goals but they're goals and they give confidence. He played for 90 minutes for his national team midweek and he came back and scored two, so that's good.”

Chelsea are currently leading the Premier League table and are seven points ahead of second-placed Liverpool. With Torres out, Ba will have an important role to play in the coming games as they look to continue their domination on top.
