Celtic boss Neil Lennon has warned clubs off Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, who has recently been linked with a summer switch to the English Premier League.

Van Dijk only joined the Bhoys last year, arriving from Dutch side FC Groningen. He has quickly impressed though, earning plaudits and no shortage of transfer speculation.

Lennon does not want to entertain any thoughts of cashing in on the 22-year-old though, who he rates as one of his side's "best" players.

Asked about the speculation at a press conference, Lennon replied: "A bit premature as he's on a three-year contract here. I would guard against that.

"Not on our horizon. One of our best players and we're in a position where we don't need to sell.

"We've brought him in and put him in an environment where he's thrived and prospered. Our player. Will be down to us."

Van Dijk is on course to lift the Scottish Premiership title with Celtic this term, while he has also sampled Champions League football at Celtic Park.
