Marseille president Vincent Labrune is desperate for his side to appoint Andre Villas-Boas as the club's new coach in the summer.

However, discussions with the former Tottenham Hotspur manager's representatives have got off to a tricky start with, according to L'Equipe, the salary demands of the tactician well out of reach for Marseille.

Labrune believes Villas-Boas would be the perfect appointment for Marseille, who are currently bossed by sporting director Jose Anigo, filling in after the sacking of Elie Baup in December.

Villas-Boas himself was sacked in December, as Spurs showed him the door.

But the former Chelsea manager is not short of offers to jump back into management and was recently heavily linked with taking over at Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg.

Money is no object for Zenit in their pursuit of Villas-Boas, putting the ball in Marseille's court to meet the coach's financial demands if they want to stand any chance of tempting him to the Stade Velodrome for next season.
