Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool will always be in the market to sign world-class players due to the nature of the club, but has emphasised he is keen to continue developing talent in-house.

The Reds look set to be back in the Champions League next season, something which will necessitate the need for a larger squad to be placed at Rodgers' disposal.

And the Northern Irishman fully accepts Liverpool will have to dip into the transfer market to satisfy their needs; the Reds bought no one during the winter transfer window.

"Our first look has to be within", he told a press conference, pointing out a preference for the club developing their own players.

"Liverpool will always be a club that has to be in the market for the world's best", Rodgers continued.

"All the world-class players we need won't always be on our doorstep.

"But part of what we do here is looking for the development of our own players and coaching.

"If you show that you care enough and want to learn and improve you'll get that opportunity.

"Then we put you into an environment which is a high-performance environment."
