Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has received a fitness boost with defensive pair Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches both returning to training.

A back problem has kept Chiriches out of action since the end of January, while Dawson picked up a hamstring injury against Chelsea at the start of this month.

Tottenham have been gripped by a defensive crisis and were even forced to make-do without a recognised centre-back against Benfica last week.

And Sherwood is happy to have the pair back, telling his club's site: "Vlad has been out for a while and we have to make sure we take our time with him.

"We're pleased to see him back in training this week and we're looking to drop him back into Friday's Under-21 game against Arsenal at the Lane.

"He's trained well and he hasn't felt any reaction to his back, so we're well pleased with that.

"Michael trained at the end of last week as well, we're pleased with his progress and most of all, delighted we've more players from which to select from."

Tottenham are next in action on Sunday when they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.
