Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has insisted that he is in perfect shape to help his side towards a better season after he scored in the Red Devils’ 4-0 win over Newcastle United at St. James' Park on Saturday.

The Mexican international started his first game for David Moyes’ side since December last year and scored his second consecutive goal in two league matches after injuries to Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney gave the 25-year-old a chance to star on the field.

Hernandez, who has been a transfer target for many European clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, has started only five league games season and is glad to have finally made his mark at Old Trafford; he is hoping to also boost his chances of selection in Mexico’s World Cup squad.

"It's been a very hard season for me, but I'm trying to be very patient, and to work to try to speak on the pitch”, he told Manchester United’s site.

"I have nine goals at the moment, so I'll keep working, be patient and speak on the pitch like I always do.

"I'm happy, I played for 90 minutes and it's a long time since I started a game. The World Cup is coming so I need time to prove, whether they give me one minute or 90, that I'm ready and that I want to contribute to the team to help us have a better season.

"We're all ready to play, and that performance today showed that we are going to make difficult choices for the manager for that next game”, the player added.

Hernandez could also feature in his side’s second leg quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.
