Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone believes that Chelsea striker Fernando Torres would be delighted to rejoin his former club.

Torres was part of the Vicente Calderon outfit during his early days, playing 214 league games for the capital club, the Spanish international scored on 84 occasions before he moved to Liverpool in 2007 and then joined the Stamford Bridge club in 2011.

But, with just four strikes in 24 Premier League appearances this season, rumours of Jose Mourinho’s intent to offload the 30-year-old this summer have been doing the rounds lately.

Simeone has confirmed the Blues’ interest in their star striker Diego Costa, with a swap deal between the two also being on the cards and the Argentine manager feels Torres ‘would love’ to come back to his boyhood club.

"Fernando is always with us. Obviously I have sent messages to him; he is very happy with everything that is happening to this team – he is always present, wishing us luck”, the 43-year-old told Onda Cero.

“Of course he would love to come back to the club he grew up in and where he was very happy."

Torres will be up against his former club when the two sides face each other in the semi-final of the Champions League on 22nd April.
