Belgium head coach Marc Wilmots has agreed a new contract to remain in charge of the national team until the 2018 World Cup.

Belgium are considered as one of the dark horses for this year’s World Cup in Brazil and with players like Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Vincent Kompany and Marouane Fellaini, are expected to shock a few traditional powers in this year’s event.

Wilmots, who has masterminded Belgium’s rise in the last few years, is happy to extend his stay until Russia 2018 and believes that Red Devils can achieve a lot more in the coming years.

"We've come a long way both on and off the pitch in the last two years, and together with my technical staff I look forward to getting the most from our group over the next four years," the 45-year-old said in a statement.

"I'm very proud that I can extend my career with the national team."

Steven Martens, chief executive of the Belgian Football Federation, said: "Marc has in recent months had many other opportunities but he has shown that the national team is his first choice.
