New Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino may be a step closer towards selling his other club, Italian side Cagliari, after members of a US investment group held talks with club employees.

Cellino is attempting to sell the Rossoblu, however there have been complications over the future of Cagliari's Sant'Elia stadium and the renovations which are required.

According to Italian news agency ANSA, the US investment fund looking at purchasing the Serie A club expect to have a clearer idea of the situation by the end of the month.

"We will have a picture of the situation more clearly and more definitely defined by the end of the month", Luca Silvestrone, of the US group, explained.

On the pitch Cagliari secured a 1-1 draw with lowly Sassuolo on Saturday, which has not yet fully eased relegation worries at the club.

Cagliari currently sit 15th in Serie A with 33 points from 33 games. They are eight above the relegation zone, with five matches left to play.
