Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has expressed his disappointment at his side’s 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in last night’s Copa del Rey final at the Mestalla, but believes that the Catalan giants will come back stronger in the future.

Martino congratulated Los Blancos and believes that Barcelona are still in the race for La Liga.

"Madrid won, period. We congratulate them. We have to fight for La Liga after a bad week", the Argentine told Marca.

Martino expressed his squad’s disappointment at not winning the final despite controlling most parts of the game.

"It's a very heavy blow because we had high expectations for the game.

"We had control, we lacked a bit of cutting edge, we paid dearly for two counterattacks."

Martino still trusts his young squad though and believes that the Catalans will emerge stronger from this experience.

"People feel hurt when we lose and look at the age of these players, but Barca have a bright future."

Last night’s defeat to Real Madrid came after Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals and if the Catalans fail to win La Liga this season, they will not have won a major trophy for the first time in six seasons.
