Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva was delighted after his side secured Champions League football for the next season, following their 3-2 win over Norwich City yesterday.

The win at Carrow Road helped the Reds to move five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with 80 points from 35 games.

It also meant that Brendan Rodgers’ side cannot finish the season below third spot and thereby book their berth in the group stages of the continental competition next term.

However, with the primary target of the season achieved, Lucas now wants Liverpool to go on and lift the Premier League trophy for the first time.

"It's fantastic", the midfielder explained to his club’s official site.

"I said last week, I have been here for seven years and this is probably the first time that we really feel we have a chance.

"The last few years have been so difficult for us and the fans as well.

“We still haven't done the job, but one thing we have achieved is the Champions League – it was the main target for us at the beginning of the season – with no qualifiers, straight to the group stage.

"We will have more time in pre-season. One target is achieved, now we can carry on and think about the title."

Liverpool need seven points from their remaining three league matches against Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United to be crowned the champions of England for the first time in 24 years.
