Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has said that there are no favourites, but his team will put their best foot forward for a win when they face Bayern Munich in the first leg of their semi-final tie of the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

The Whites made it to the last four of the European tournament by defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-2 on an aggregate in the quarter-finals, and currently third in La Liga’s table, Carlo Ancelotti’s men will be hoping to get closer to more silverware after their Spanish Cup win when they take on the German club.

Pep Guardiola’s side meanwhile have already won the Bundesliga this year, and will be looking forward to making it to the European final in their attempt to defend their title, but Alonso insists that both sides will be on an equal footing tomorrow.

“I don't consider Real as the underdogs. Bayern is a great rival and we too are at a great moment”, the Spanish international was quoted as saying by Marca.

“I don't think either team are the favourites and I don't think it's in our interest to think ourselves one way or the other.

“Now, after three years getting to the semis, in our fourth year, we want to go a step further. Our motivation is absolute and we are fully focused on what we have to do”, the 32-year-old added.

Real Madrid will also be facing Osasuna in a league game on Saturday as they contend for the Spanish title along with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
