Tottenham Hotspur have made a firm move to appoint Ajax coach Frank de Boer as their new manager and the Dutchman is considering their proposal.

The White Hart Lane outfit had been keen on another Dutchman in Louis van Gaal, but current Holland coach looks set for Manchester United.

According to FOX Sports, Spurs have reacted quickly to developments concerning Van Gaal, contacting Ajax and De Boer to register their interest.

The former defender has just led Ajax to their fourth successive Eredivisie title and is taking his time to consider Tottenham's proposal.

And there is no prospect of De Boer coming to a decision before Ajax's final Eredivisie game of the season, which sees the Amsterdam giants lock horns with NEC Nijmegen.

NEC, sitting bottom of the table, are fighting for their lives in the Dutch top flight.

Spurs meanwhile are sixth in the Premier League and desperate to mount a challenge to break into the top four and secure Champions League football next term.

They could face a tough task tempting De Boer to do the trick though, the Dutchman having consistently reluctant to leave Holland until his children complete their education.
