Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that Eden Hazard is not a player who is willing to "leave his life" to protect his full-back in matches and has explained the Belgian won't sacrifice himself "100 per cent" for the team.

Hazard cut an unhappy figure following Chelsea's elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening and explained that he felt the side were not set up to play football, with counter-attacking their game.

Mourinho has refused to accept that this constituted criticism from the former Lille man and instead accused the media of spinning the story. However, in a lengthy address at a press conference, he did have some choice words about the forward.

"First of all I listened to the interview. The words are completely different than some media were saying. The context is completely transformed", Mourinho said.

"The media was reporting that he was being critical. There was nothing critical in what he said. He had exactly the same words in relation to the Belgian side a couple of weeks ago. There is nothing there", the Chelsea boss continued.

"Normally you get these kinds of comments from players like him, from a player that can't resolve a problem like we had in the first goal. Against Atletico in Madrid, Willian played on the left side and Ashley Cole was protected all game. Against Liverpool, [Andre] Schurrle played on the the left side and a dangerous player like Glen Johnson was completely under control.

"Eden is not the kind of player that is mentally ready to look back to his left-back and leave his life for him.

"If you look back at Atletico's first goal you completely understand where the mistake was and that goal [came from]. The perfect team at the top level can't make these kinds of mistakes.

"When you have these kinds of comments from Eden it's normal because he's not the type of player prepared to sacrifice himself 100 per cent for the team and his mates."
