Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a summer swoop for Catania right-back Gino Peruzzi after being impressed with the defender following several scouting trips.

The 21-year-old has shone in Serie A this term for Catania, making 21 league appearances and even chipping in with a goal and an assist.

It has been a fine first campaign in Italy for the Argentine and has gone some way towards making up for the disappointment of missing out on a switch to Sunderland last summer.

Peruzzi had been poised to join the Black Cats from Velez Sarsfield, but a medical issue persuaded the Premier League outfit to abandon the move, leaving Catania free to swoop in and seal the defender's signature for a fee of around €3.5m.

But 12 months later Peruzzi may end up playing his football in England after all with, according to Sky Italia, Tottenham firmly on his tail.

The White Hart Lane outfit have had Peruzzi watched and have been impressed with his performances for Catania.

However, with the Argentine under lock and key until the summer of 2017 at Catania, the English outfit may have to dig deep to attract the 21-year-old to White Hart Lane.
