In their search for a commanding midfielder this summer, Fiorentina have turned their eyes towards Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira.

The German international had a season to forget as he ruptured his cruciate ligament in November last year, which kept him out of action until the start of this month.

The 27-year-old made his long awaited return from injury in Real Madrid’s 2-0 defeat at Celta Vigo last Saturday as a second half substitute.

Fiorentina have identified signing a top class midfielder this summer as a priority and are willing to sign the German despite an injury-stricken season, according to La Nazione.

Khedira was believed to be one of Manchester United’s midfield targets this summer, but the sacking of David Moyes in April might have changed the equations at Old Trafford.

Khedira has been named in Germany’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad and the 27-year-old will hope to make the final cut despite an injury-stricken season.
