Diego Milito is of the opinion that it has been a positive season for Inter Milan, following his side’s 2-1 loss to Chievo in their final Serie A game of the campaign.

The Nerazzurri finished the 2013/14 season in fifth spot with 60 points from 38 games, 18 fewer than Napoli, who occupy the third and final Champions League spot.

And Milito, who is set to leave the club in the summer, believes his side could have challenged for a Champions League spot if they had a “few more points.”

The Argentine is however pleased with Inter qualifying for the Europa League despite the San Siro outfit changing ownership midway through the season.

“In terms of the team it has been a positive season. They might have had higher ambitions but there have also been difficulties and a change of ownership”, he told the Inter Channel.

“We are happy though because we have at least got Inter into the Europa League, even though we have dropped a lot of points, especially at home.

“It’s a shame. With a few more points we could have challenged for the Champions League.”

Milito further admitted that it was a difficult season for him as he found his game time limited under new Inter boss Walter Mazzarri.

“It’s been a difficult season for me, because I definitely wanted to play more often”, he added.

“Until December I was looking to get in shape after a year of not playing but then, just as I was getting back to my peak, I got another injury.

“These additional three months out were a real psychological blow. I tried to be as calm as possible and in January I made my return in Udinese.”
