Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that full-back Martin Kelly will receive first team opportunities next season.

The defender has endured two injury-ravaged campaigns which have seen him make just 15 appearances for the Reds for the last two seasons.

Although Kelly regained fitness in the latter part of the 2013/14 season, he found game time hard to come by as Liverpool were playing just one match per week.

However Rodgers feels the 24-year-old, who played as a centre-back in his side’s 4-0 win over Shamrock Rovers in a post season friendly last week, will receive ample chances to play next term.

"Martin has been really unfortunate", the Northern Irishman explained to his club’s official site.

"He was out for a year, he came back this season and at the beginning of the season we put him into some games.

"But as the season wore on and we were concentrating on one game a week, it was very difficult for him to get games.

"He's a quality player and he's a good guy as well – he knows the club inside out. He's been around for a long time and the game against Shamrock Rovers was his first game for a number of months.

"He played at centre-half, as opposed to right-back, where he has played a lot. He's a good guy and there will be games next year for the likes of him to come and play in if we continue to qualify in the competitions."

Liverpool will be featuring in the Champions League next season after a gap of five years, in addition to playing in the Premier League, the League Cup and the FA Cup.
