Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Catalans which will see him remain at the Camp Nou until 2019.

Ter Stegen is expected to be Barcelona’s number one choice between the sticks in the upcoming season with Victor Valdes and Jose Manuel Pinto both out of contract and leaving the club in the summer.

The signing was made possible after the Spanish giants appealed against a 14-month transfer ban handed to the club in April after breaching rules on signing international players under 18 years of age.

Ter Stegen played all 34 of Monchengladbach’s league games this term as he helped the Bundesliga club to finish the 2013/14 season in sixth spot.

The custodian has four senior caps for Germany to his name, but is not a part of the nation’s World Cup squad.
