Ligue 1 side Bordeaux have joined the race for out-of-favour Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

The 25-year-old defender has been made available for transfer this summer by Newcastle, providing an acceptable offer is made.

Yanga-Mbiwa saw his displays over the season for the Magpies strongly criticised and the club's boss Alan Pardew is thought ready to allow the player to leave.

Clubs in Yanga-Mbiwa's native France have been alerted to the possibility of signing him, with Lille already in the chase.

Now, according to L'Equipe, they have been joined by Bordeaux.

The defender was a key man in Montpellier's unlikely Ligue 1 title triumph in 2012 and joined Newcastle in January 2013.
