Everton have emerged as shock contenders to land departing Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, amidst interest from the likes of Galatasaray, Monaco and even Chinese outfit Guangzhou Evergrande.

The Cameroon international’s contract with Chelsea will expire at the end of this month and he is on the verge of leaving the west London side.

Galatasaray manager Roberto Mancini is a known admirer of Eto’o and is looking to bring him to Turkey to replace the departing Didier Drogba this summer. Monaco and Guangzhou remain keen to sign the 33-year-old however, with each prepared to offer him a lucrative contract.

However, Everton have emerged as the shock favourites to land the former Barcelona striker, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

It is believed that representatives from the club and the player met in London in the last few days to discuss a possible move to the Toffees this summer.

Eto’o joined Chelsea last summer on a free transfer from Anzhi Makhachkala and the Cameroonian scored nine goals in 21 league appearances for the Blues.
