French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux have not abandoned the idea of signing defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from Newcastle United.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud had insisted recently that signing Yanga-Mbiwa from the Magpies was a financial impossibility. However, the Ligue 1 club are still in the race for the 25-year-old, according to Le Parisien.

Indeed, the former Montpellier man has been identified as a priority recruit by Bordeaux, who are determined to pull out all the stops to place him at coach Willy Sagnol's disposal next season.

Yanga-Mbiwa has been made available for transfer this summer by Newcastle.
