Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has reiterated his side's desire to sign Matthias Ginter from Freiburg this summer, but insists he respects the fact that the defender has a contract with the Black Forest outfit.

Freiburg are working hard to keep hold of Ginter, who has also been linked with Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach.

However, the starlet has admitted a liking for Dortmund and Jurgen Klopp's side are hoping to overcome Freiburg's resistance to add him to their ranks before the new season.

"We want him desperately, everything else is not within our power", Watzke admitted to Kicker.

"Of course we accept that Ginter still has a contract until 2017", he added.

However, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc is at pains to point out that if Ginter does not arrive, there will be no rush to bring in an alternative.

"We don't see an acute need", Zorc explained, looking at the club's defensive options.
