Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Manchester City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old has agreed a four-year deal with the Black Cats which will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2018.

The Romanian international joined the Citizens permanently from Politechnica Timisoara in 2012 and made 29 appearances in all competitions for the English champions, keeping 15 clean sheets.

And Pantilimon, who revealed that Sunderland boss Gus Poyet was a big reason behind him joining the Wearside club, is looking forward to playing for his new employers.

“When I left Manchester City it was important that I chose a club with good ambition and a head coach who has the hunger and desire to take the team forward,” he told Sunderland’s official site.
