Schalke attacking midfielder Julian Draxler has put a spanner in Arsenal’s hopes of signing him by revealing that he will not be leaving the Bundesliga club this summer.

The Germany international was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in January, but the transfer did not materialise and the Gunners ended up signing only Kim Kallstrom on loan from Spartak Moscow.

It was believed that Arsenal would turn their attention to the 20-year-old, who is currently representing his country at the World Cup in Brazil, once again during the summer transfer window.

But Draxler, who further revealed that he turned down the chance to join the north London outfit in January, insists that he wishes to remain at Schalke for one more season.

“In January there was the offer of Arsenal, but I decided to stay,” he told the BBC.
