Jordan Henderson has admitted that it would be positive news for England if his Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez does not feature against the Three Lions on Thursday.

The striker missed Uruguay’s 3-1 loss to Costa Rica in their World Cup opener on Saturday with a knee injury.

But Suarez is expected to take the field against England in the crunch game at the Arena Corinthians tomorrow.

And Henderson explained that he is certain that Suarez, who was the Premier League’s top scorer in the 2013/14 season with 31 strikes to his name, is itching to play versus England.

“If Luis doesn’t play it is obviously a positive, because he is a fantastic player,” the midfielder told FIFA’s official site.

“But I'm sure he is chomping at the bit and he is doing everything he can to be fit for the game.”

Henderson, whose side went down fighting 2-1 to Italy at the weekend, knows Uruguay are a quality side and hence wants England to recover from their loss and prepare well to face the reigning Copa America champions.

“Uruguay are a really good side as well, so we've just got to concentrate on the next game, recover well and prepare as best we can,” he added.
