Ex-England striker Kevin Davies is confident about the Three Lions defeating Uruguay in their second World Cup match tonight.

Uruguay, who lost their opening fixture against Costa Rica 2-0 on Saturday, will be without some of their key players against the Englishmen at the Arena Corinthians.

La Celeste captain Diego Lugano is ruled out of the fixture with an injury and full-back Maxi Pereira is suspended for the game after receiving a red card against Costa Rica.

In addition, Uruguay’s prolific striker Luis Suarez is still not fully fit as he continues to recover from his knee injury.

On the other hand, England played well despite losing their first match 2-1 to Italy at the weekend.

And Davies believes it is an ideal opportunity for England, who he feels are full of confidence, to claim the full three points against the South American nation tonight.

"Uruguay's performance in the last game was poor,” he told the BBC.

“Their captain is injured. Their right back is suspended. Suarez – how fit is he? It's an opportunity to go and win this game. I'm quietly optimistic.

"England started really well against Italy. They need to come out of the blocks tonight fast, but they seem full of confidence. If we take the game to Uruguay, we can win."
