Stoke City are in the mix to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani, joining West Ham, Trabzonspor and Marseille in the race.

Slimani is currently at the World Cup in Brazil as part of the Algeria squad and has impressed, hitting the back of the net in a 4-2 win over South Korea.




Sporting Lisbon are well aware the striker is coveted by a number of clubs and according to Portuguese daily A Bola, Stoke have joined the race.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is thought to be a firm fan of Slimani and will try to tempt the Algerian to the Britannia Stadium this summer.

 


The 26-year-old landed at Sporting Lisbon just last year, clocking up 26 appearances in the Portuguese top flight last term, scoring eight goals.

It remains to be seen whether the Lisbon giants will be prepared to cash in on Slimani so soon after signing him.

His contract with Sporting Lisbon runs until 2017.
