Serie B side Ternana have attempted to play down speculation that striker Mirco Antenucci could be heading to Leeds United.

The English club's owner Massimo Cellino, who until recently also owned Serie A outfit Cagliari, is thought to hold a keen interest in the 29-year-old and is plotting a move to take him to Elland Road this summer.

Antenucci spent last season on loan at Ternana from Catania and impressed, hitting the back of the net 19 times in 40 Serie B games.

Ternana claim they have activated their right to keep Antenucci on a permanent basis, playing down interest from Leeds, while also leaving the door slightly ajar for transfer market surprises.

"It is a rumour that has been circulating since the end of the season", Ternana sporting director Vittorio Cozzella told Tutto Mercato, when asked about Leeds wanting Antenucci.

"At this time there is nothing official. We spoke with the agent who told us about some situations, but no one has come forward", he continued.

"Obviously we redeemed him ten days ago and we would like to keep him with us, but anything can happen in the market.

"If top clubs can lose their top-class talents to offers that can't be refused, then even Ternana could not remain unmoved in front of important deals.

"However, it is clear that an offer would need to be one which could not be refused because we have no intention of selling our attacker."
