Scottish youngster Ryan Gauld is expecting a tough task at new club Sporting Lisbon, but is relishing the opportunity to shine.

Sporting Lisbon have snapped up the 18-year-old attacking midfielder from Scottish outfit Dundee United, paying a fee thought to be in the region of €3.7m to secure his services.

The Portuguese giants have slapped a €60m buy-out clause in Gauld's contract in a sign of how highly they rate him.

But the 18-year-old is not feeling the pressure and is simply preparing to give his all for Sporting Lisbon.

"I'm just looking forward to playing for the club and trying to make a good show of myself", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"They've paid a big price but hopefully I can put in good performances for them, establish myself and just do well for them.

"It will be hard but I'm also really looking forward to it. It's going to be a good challenge for myself and I'm excited by it."

Within Scotland, Gauld has been dubbed the "mini Messi", in a comparison with Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
