Leeds United are likely to miss out on striker Matteo Mancosu, who is edging towards a switch to boyhood club Cagliari.

Former Cagliari owner Massimo Cellino, now at Leeds and working with the club's former sporting director Nicola Salerno, has cast his eyes in Mancosu's direction, alerted to the 28 goals he scored in all competitions for Serie B side Trapani last season.

Palermo had joined Leeds in the hunt for the 29-year-old, however they are thought to have now backed away from a potential deal.

According to Cagliari News 24, Mancosu has his heart set on joining Cagliari, his hometown club, something which has put the Rossoblu in pole position to secure his signature.

Mancosu has spent the majority of his career playing in the Italian lower leagues and is relishing the opportunity to taste Serie A football with Cagliari.

Mancosu has two brothers who are also professional footballers.
