Lazio have been offered hope in their desire to sign Feyenoord centre-back Stefan de Vrij.

The Netherlands defender has interested the Serie A club all summer long, with Lazio having seen at least one bid knocked back by the Rotterdam giants.

Recently it appeared all hope had gone amidst talk of De Vrij having reached an agreement to join Oranje coach Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

But the player's agent has denied that is the case and insisted his client is putting his whole focus into the World Cup, rather than transfer issues.

"We have not reached an agreement with Manchester United; we've signed nothing with them", De Vrij's representative was quoted as saying by Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur.

"I don't know where these rumours came from", he added.

"Stefan is entirely focused on the World Cup and wants to perform well there.

"Is a move to Lazio still possible? No comment."

De Vrij has just one year left on his contract at De Kuip and Feyenoord are open to selling the defender for the right price.
