Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has sought to put an end to transfer speculation linking the club's striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar with Liverpool.

The Reds are preparing to sell Luis Suarez to Barcelona and Huntelaar has been mooted as a potential replacement for the Uruguayan, especially as he has but one year remaining on his contract at Schalke.

But, while admitting there could well be some movement and changes in squad personnel throughout the summer, Heldt is firm that the Dutch striker will not be amongst any departures.

"I don't want to take part in possible speculation. But it could of course be the case that something will change in the squad and that there will be some movement here or there", Heldt told Schalke's official site.

"The last thing I read was that Liverpool are supposed to be interested in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar", he continued.

"We don't know anything about that. Liverpool, Klaas-Jan and his agent have not been in touch with us and we're not interested in releasing the player."

Huntelaar is currently at the World Cup as part of Louis van Gaal's Netherlands squad that have booked a spot in the tournament's semi-finals.

The Dutchman was strongly linked with Liverpool throughout 2012, but eventually extended his contract at Schalke until 2015.
