Manchester United have had an offer for Atletico Madrid defender Miranda knocked back.

The Red Devils are known to be firm fans of the centre-back and have been eyeing him to provide solidity to the heart of their defence for next season.

However, according to Madrid-based daily Marca, the Spanish champions have rejected a bid submitted by Louis van Gaal's men.

Atletico Madrid are fighting hard to ensure their title-winning team is not ripped apart this summer, having already seen striker Diego Costa up sticks for Chelsea.

The Blues have also refused to extend Thibaut Courtois' loan, meaning a Stamford Bridge return for the goalkeeper, while midfielder Tiago is also due at Chelsea following the expiration of his Atletico Madrid contract.
