Dejan Lovren has accused Southampton of lacking ambition and called for the club to sell him to Liverpool.

Lovren joined the Saints just last year, switching from French giants Lyon and penning a four-year contract at St. Mary's Stadium.

However, the Croatia international has set his heart on leaving Southampton, believing that the club selling Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana betrays a lack of ambition.

"Look, I'd gladly stay in Southampton if the club had any ambitions, if they kept the key players", the 25-year-old explained to Croatian daily Sportske Novosti.

"When I decided to go to Southampton, many people were surprised, but I went because the people at the club had great ambition.

"It was because of that I'd agreed to sign for Southampton. When the chairman left, and [Mauricio] Pochettino was going too as early as April, I realised things had fallen apart."

Lovren also insists that Southampton have not informed him of a bid from Liverpool, which the Saints rejected. Indeed, the defender has already set his heart on moving to Anfield.

"Liverpool sent the offer and the club haven't informed me. Not even about the subsequent Liverpool bids. That wasn't right.

"I found out about the bid from other people which disappointed me and I realised I've got no business staying at Southampton. Frankly, my head is already at Liverpool."
