Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique feels the Reds have already considerably strengthened their squad this summer.

The Merseyside giants, who finished second in the Premier League last season, have already roped in Southampton duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, in addition to signing Bayer Leverkusen youngster Emre Can.

And Enrique believes Liverpool will be in the running for trophies this term if they manage to bring in a few more players before the closure of the summer transfer window.

"Lambert and Lallana had been doing really well for Southampton. Emre Can, as well, they say is really good”, the Spaniard told his club’s official site.

"Hopefully with a few more additions, we can compete for good things. We have already improved the squad because we have signed players after we finished second last year.

"The club are bringing good names here as well. Hopefully there'll be more names, but we are really happy with the squad. I'm really looking forward to the season.”

Liverpool will return to the Champions League after a gap of five years next season and Enrique, who joined the Anfield outfit from Newcastle United in 2011, is looking forward to playing in Europe’s premium club competition for the first time in his career.

"This year we'll play in the Champions League, which I've never played in yet in my career”, he added.

“I'm so much looking forward to that. But we have to do really well again in the league; we have so many competitions this year."

Enrique endured an injury-ravaged 2013/14 campaign where he made just nine appearances in all competitions for Liverpool.
