Liverpool have offered Napoli the opportunity to sign goalkeeper Pepe Reina on a permanent basis for a fee of €3m, but the Italian club only want a fresh loan.

Reina spent last term on loan at Napoli, helping the club finish third in Serie A and win the Coppa Italia. He is due to return to Liverpool this summer though following the expiry of his loan.

According to Italian daily Tuttosport, Liverpool have recently been in touch with Napoli and informed them that they can buy Reina for €3m.

However, with the goalkeeper on a hefty pay packet at Anfield, the Serie A side favour a fresh loan agreement along the lines of last season's deal.

Indeed, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants Liverpool to pay part of Reina's salary during his time in Italy, as was the case last term.

Liverpool are keen to offload Reina, having signed Belgian Simon Mignolet as their number 1 last summer, as the Spaniard was shipped out of the Anfield exit door.

Napoli though are considering other options in the event Liverpool will not sanction a new loan.
