Leeds United have backed out of a deal to sign Jonathan Rossini from Sassuolo.

Reports in Italy had suggested a deal for Rossini was done, with the defender agreeing to join the Yorkshire giants on a season-long loan deal.

But in a remarkable turn of events, Leeds have called off Rossini's arrival.

The English Championship side announced via their official site: "The club can confirm that Swiss defender Jonathan Rossini has left United's training base in Italy as the club have opted not to sign him.

"The defender trained with United for three days in Italy and after talks with Rossini the club have allowed him to return to his parent club Sassuolo."

And Leeds president Massimo Cellino attempted to put the development into some context, claiming Rossini did not show the "right attitude".

"We want special players at Leeds United. Rossini didn’t show enough during the three days he trained with the rest of the team.

"After speaking to him it is clear that he didn’t have the right attitude to join Leeds, so we have allowed him to leave."
