Egyptian giants Al Ahly have confirmed that winger Ahmed Fathi is heading to England for a trial with Arsenal.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Al Ahly, meaning he could head elsewhere on a free transfer this summer. Now Fathi will try to impress Gunners boss Arsene Wenger over the course of the week, after being invited to the FA Cup winners.

Fathi does have experience of English football, having enjoyed a brief spell with Sheffield United in 2007 and last year at Hull City.

Al Ahly football chief Alaa Abdel-Sadeq told Al-Ahram: "Fathi will go for trial with Arsenal for one week in a step to join the Premier League side if he passes medical and technical tests there.

"He has promised the Ahly management that he will return to the team if he fails to reach an agreement with Arsenal."
