Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted reports in England that the club are paying £75m (€94m) to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool are false.

The Catalan giants reached an agreement with Liverpool over Suarez last week, with the Uruguayan striker now due to fly into Spain later this week to undergo a medical and put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Camp Nou.

Suarez is costing Barcelona a hefty sum, which Bartomeu has kept mum on for now. But the former Ajax man is not costing the €94m figure which is claimed in England, he insists.

In Spain, a total of between €81m (£64.4m) and €84m (£66.7m) has been reported; much closer to the truth for Bartomeu.

"It is closer to what sources in Barcelona say. It is not as high as €85m", Bartomeu was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.
