Leeds United boss David Hockaday has insisted that his players are working as a unit and are determined to do well for the team in the upcoming campaign, while pointing out he has instituted a culture shift.

The Peacocks have returned home after having spent two weeks in Italy at a training camp and despite the club having been forced to play themselves in a friendly when their Romanian opposition failed to turn up, Hockaday has judged the trip a success.

The 56-year-old has already revealed that his goal will be to have a strong and fit team at Elland Road this year and he believes that the players are progressing well in that direction and have not fallen prey to any distractions.

“When I have spoken to the players they feel that there is a different culture here now and they feel like they are buying into it”, Hockaday told his club's official site.

“Every day we were out there we moved forward. We have to be a team.

"If there are one or two people that aren’t with us then we have a problem.

“But everybody is pulling in the same direction and everybody wants to do well for Leeds United."

Speaking about their experience in Italy, the former Forest Green Rovers manager added: "There were no distractions out there but we kept them occupied with three training sessions and by the time they were finished and had dinner they all crawled into bed.

“The players all worked incredibly hard.”

Leeds next play Conference North side Guiseley AFC in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
