Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of striker Emmanuel Riviere from Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.

Riviere has penned what the St. James' Park side have described as a "long-term" deal and is thought to have cost the Magpies around the €9m mark.

The 24-year-old hit the back of the net ten times in Ligue 1 for Monaco last term, as the club finished second behind Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Riviere has been deemed surplus to requirements by the club's new coach Leonardo Jardim.

Monaco snapped up the striker in January 2013 and he promptly helped the club earn promotion from Ligue 2.

Now Riviere is at Newcastle and has struck a delighted note.

"I'm very happy to be here at Newcastle", he told the club's site.

"When the club spoke to me I said yes immediately. It was an easy decision because Newcastle is a big club with great fans and a good stadium.

"My dream was always to play in the Premier League and Newcastle have given me the opportunity to realise that."
