Tottenham Hotspur have lodged an enquiry with Roma about the availability of 23-year-old striker Mattia Destro.

The English Premier League outfit are stepping up their work in the summer transfer window and their new boss, Mauricio Pochettino, is a firm admirer of Destro.

And Spurs have taken the first steps down a path which could well end with Destro joining Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

According to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia, Tottenham have contacted Roma to enquire about signing Destro, but have been met with the news that the Giallorossi will want above €25m to part company with the highly-rated talent.

Spurs may look to use striker Roberto Soldado as a make-weight in a bid for Destro, but Roma's priority is raising funds after lavishing €22m to sign winger Juan Iturbe from Hellas Verona earlier today.

The ball is now in Spurs' court to make good on their interest with a concrete proposal to persuade Roma to part with Destro, who is under contract with last season's Serie A runners-up until 2017.

Tottenham, who are looking to bolster their attacking options, have also been linked with free agent Samuel Eto'o, who would represent a far cheaper option than the Roma man.
