Leeds United sporting director Nicola Salerno has admitted that the English club are still keen on Ternana striker Mirco Antenucci, but are finding the cost of doing a deal to be prohibitive at present.

The Yorkshire giants are doing the majority of their transfer shopping in Italy, with former Cagliari sporting director Salerno, and Leeds' Italian owner Massimo Cellino, leading the way.

Already goalkeeper Marco Silvestri, defender Gaetano Berardi, midfielder Tommaso Bianchi and striker Souleymane Doukara have been secured.

But Cellino readily admits more will be on the way – and Antenucci, a striker who scored 19 times in Serie B last season, is on the wanted list.

However, with Ternana insisting they must be presented with an offer they simply cannot refuse, to part with the 29-year-old, Leeds are in a bind.

"Antenucci? The player is interesting, but a solution is difficult for economic reasons", Salerno admitted to Itasportpress.

"In Italy, salary and costs are still above average."

Antenucci has interest from more than just Leeds however, with one exotic suitor being Japanese side FC Tokyo.
