Scottish champions Celtic have knocked back an offer from Southampton for goalkeeper Fraser Forster, according to the BBC.

Southampton have money to spend following the big-money sales of Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, and lodged an offer for the England international with the Bhoys.

But Celtic wasted little time in rejecting the Saints' proposal, dubbing it nowhere near good enough to consider a sale.

New Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is aiming to bolster his squad ahead of the new campaign, but looks likely to have to significantly improve his offer for Forster if he wishes to capture the custodian.

The goalkeeper helped Celtic to retain their Scottish title last term and then jetted off to the World Cup as part of Roy Hodgson's England squad.

Forster originally joined Celtic on loan from Newcastle United, impressing enough for the Bhoys to make his move a permanent one.

The 26-year-old has won two senior caps for England at international level.
