Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that striker Fabio Borini’s shoulder injury is not as serious as first feared.

The Italian picked up the injury during the Reds’ 1-0 loss to Roma in a pre-season friendly last night at Fenway Park.

Borini, who has been linked with a permanent move back to Sunderland all summer, had to be replaced just 12 minutes into the match following a heavy fall.

However, Rodgers insisted that the injury will not result in a lengthy spell out on the sidelines for the 23-year-old, as he expects the former Roma player to return to action after a few days' rest.

"It's probably not as bad as first thought", the manager told his club’s official site.

"He's had problems in the past with his shoulder, but he's only bruised it.

"He'll miss a few days of training. He won't train now for the remainder of the trip here, but it's only going to be a matter of days before he's back training and playing again."

Borini, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2012, has a further three years left on his present contract with the Anfield outfit.
